Commercial construction in Henley-on-Thames

Henley’s centre is one of the most intact historic townscapes in the county. Hart Street, the Market Place and the riverside are a conservation area packed with listed buildings, and consent conditions reach down to joinery profiles, lime renders and the fixings on a shopfront. The finish standard expected by hospitality and retail clients here is higher again, and it is inspected.

The Thames runs the whole length of the town, and the riverside and much of the land behind it is in flood zones two and three. Ground floor levels, flood-resilient finishes and services routed above the flood line are routine on riverside work, and they belong in the design rather than the snagging list.

The town also runs to its own calendar. Royal Regatta week at the start of July brings road closures, parking suspensions and crowds that make deliveries close to impossible, and the festival and summer events either side extend it. We programme around those dates at tender stage. Beyond the town, the Chilterns National Landscape covers much of the surrounding land, with its own planning expectations on materials and massing.
