Commercial construction in Carterton

RAF Brize Norton sits on the southern edge of the town, and most of Carterton falls inside its aerodrome safeguarding zone. Planning applications are referred to the Ministry of Defence, and crane lifts need to be notified and sometimes restricted in height or timing. A tower crane that would be routine in Oxford can need weeks of notice here, so lifting strategy is settled before the programme is.

Safeguarding goes further than height. External lighting has to avoid confusing aircrew, and planting schemes, water features and flat roofs are all assessed for how attractive they are to birds. Those conditions are easy to miss at tender and expensive to meet once the landscaping is already specified.

On the ground, the work is mostly industrial and commercial units on the estates around Ventura Park and the edge of town, plus schools, community buildings and retail serving a fast-growing population. Access runs almost entirely along the B4477 and the A40, with the Witney end of the A40 congested for much of the day, so delivery timing matters as much here as it does in Witney.
